Jerry L. Johnson Sr., 68, a resident of McDonald, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at the family residence.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was employed with Remington Industries for 14 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines.
He was a volunteer with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years and for the past five years he was a volunteer with the Bradley County Emergency Management Agency. He loved golfing and fishing and was an avid University of Alabama fan.
He was the son of the late Marcus Calvin and Kattie Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Earnest Johnson, Earl Johnson, Jack Johnson and Glenn Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Johnson, of McDonald; four children: Jerry Johnson Jr. and wife, Denise, of Cleveland, Jodie Taylor and special friend, Rick Watkins of Cleveland, Chris Johnson of McDonald and Jennifer Johnson Brock and husband, Tristan, of Cleveland; two grandchildren: Jerry Johnson III and Keylee Rayne Brock, both of Cleveland; two sisters: Buena Herron and husband, Neil, of Old Fort and Cindy Bain and husband, J.R., of Cleveland; one brother, Joe Johnson of Cleveland; brother and sister by choice, Donald and Linda Cross of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 8, 2011, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Ingram officiating.
Interment will be held at Boanerges Cemetery with military honors. Jerry Johnson Jr., Donald Cross, Joe Johnson, Chris Johnson, J.R. Bain and Tristan Brock will serve as pallbearers. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and Cleveland Police Department Honor Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
