Joel “JJ” Johnson, 72, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at the family residence.

He was a retired Army veteran, who served 18 years of active duty and six years in the Reserves. He also retired as a truck driver from Classic Express.

He was a very proud member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Reliance.

He was the son of the late Marcus Calvin and Katy Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ernest, Earl, Jack, Jerry and Glenn.

Survivors include his sisters: Cindy Baine and her husband, Junior, of Cleveland and Buena Herron and her husband, Neal, of Old Fort; his ex-wife and caregiver, Teresa Johnson Jenkins of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Wildwood Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Lee Ingram officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow in the Boanerges Baptist Church Cemetery with Tommy Jones, Jerry Johnson, Junior Baine, Dean Herron, Trever Massengill and Jerry Johnson III serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Tom Jones and Dwight Ryan.

The family will receive friends today from 4 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
