John Ellis 78, of Cleveland, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 21, 2012, in a local health care facility.
He was the son of the late Rachel Burris Ellis and Jack Ellis.
He worked in construction most of his life. He worked for Conley Electric, operated heavy equipment and was a diesel mechanic.
He was a very active member of the Boanerges Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lois Hicks Ellis of Cleveland; sons: Steve Ellis and his wife, Dinah, the Rev.William “Bill” Ellis and his wife, Kathy, Dennis Ellis and his wife, Donna, all of Cleveland, Richard Ellis and his wife, Trefene, of Old Fort; grandchildren: Angie Hicks and her husband Dustin, Karen Lamon and her husband Heath, Catrina Long and her husband Darrell, John Ellis, Jerry and Tucker Ellis, Cody Ellis, Haley Ellis, Blake Ellis, Elijah Ellis; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted this evening, Sept. 23, 2012, at 7 from the Wildwood Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Revs. Joe Hatcher and William “Bill” Ellis officiating.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. from the Boanerges Baptist Church Cemetery with John, Jerry, Elijah, Cody and Blake Ellis, Dustin Hicks, Heath Lamon and Darrell Long serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
