Joseph Ray Evans, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with lung cancer and leukemia on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.
He was a loving husband of 50 years to Mae McNulty Evans; father of Patti Evans Meynier (Jason) and Laura Evans (Steven). He was “Poppy” and a hero of Brandon Joseph Meynier; and brother of Wilma Porter of Waterford, Mich., Drusilla Stinnett (Billy) of Benton and Marlin Evans (Elizabeth) of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Pearl and T.L. Evans; and two siblings, Alvin Evans and J.D. Evans.
He is survived by many loving sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends.
He will be sadly missed by his four-legged buddy “Busta.”
He was a native of Benton, and a lifelong resident of Metairie, La. He was a hero to all who knew and loved him and they said he “will be our angel looking down on us.”
He is a U.S. Navy veteran and a retiree of Atlas Steel & Wire/AmeriSteel Corp. He was an avid fisherman and all-around “Mr. Fix It.”
The family extend their gratitude to Notre Dame Hospice, Deacon Uriel, Nurse Gina, Drs. Burrough & Bhanderi and their staffs and Debbie with Total Health.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie LA, today, Oct. 16, 2012, at noon.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time.
Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
