Karen Sue Swafford Boyd, 49, of the Hillsview Community near Riceville, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of McMinn County and a lifelong resident of the Hillsview Community near Riceville, she was a daughter of the late Betty Sue Bunch Swafford. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Donald Boyd; and brother-in-law, Bryan Masters.

She was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Jerry D. Boyd of Riceville; father and stepmother, Burch Taylor and Beverly Swafford of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jessica and Adam Bishop of Riceville and Annie and Scott King of Athens; one special granddaughter, Madison “Madi” Bishop; two sisters and brother-in-law: Billie Masters of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Kathy and Darrell Leamon of Athens; two stepsisters: Roberta Shay of Lawrenceburg and Lori Burtram of Linton, Ind.; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Roger Swafford of Athens and Danny and Cheri Swafford of Cleveland; three stepbrothers: Mike Malone of Athens, Bruce Malone and his wife, Sandy, of Decatur, Bill Malone of Linton; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ed Shaver and Dean Shaver; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many cherished nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sheila Vaughn of Athens and Judy Harris of Riceville.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Short Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Lewis and the Rev. Gene Guffey officiating.

The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chase Boyd, Jeremy Edwards, John Leamon, McKenzie Swafford, Dustin Swafford, Brady Swafford, Jeff Lewis, and Steve Farmer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Ziegler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
