Lady Colts win region golf championship

Thursday was a big day for the Ocoee Middle Colts and Lady Colts at Brown Acres Golf Course in Chattanooga. Both squads earned the right to play the best from the Chattanooga area with strong finishes in the district tournament earlier in the week. The top three teams from each district along with the top three individuals qualified for the championship event.

The ladies from Ocoee continued their stellar play capturing the championship with a team total of 174 in the 18-hole event. Girls Preparatory School finished as the runner-up, 9 shots off the lead. Individually, Kelsey Cassada finished as the low medalist with an 86 and Olivia Williams finished second overall with an 88. Kaylee Gregg added a 113.

The Lady Raiders of Cleveland were represented well by Rheagan Hall, who finished as a medalist with an 89. Danielle Bates played well to lead Chilhowee Middle’s ladies with a 90.

In the boys competition the Ocoee Middle Colts represented well but fell short, finishing in fifth place with a team total 381. Nick McCracken and Parker Gray led the Colts with 88 and 89 respectively.

The McCallie Blue Tornado brought home the championship followed closely by runner-up Riceville Elementary. Matt Mays led Riceville with an 80.

The Colts and Lady Colts will travel to Athens to take part in the Southeast Tennessee Athletic Conference Championship today at Ridgewood Golf Club.
