The Cleveland State Lady Cougars added one more mark to the win column on Thursday night at L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium just before taking a break for the Christmas Holidays. The Cleveland State ladies will take a four-game win streak to the new year with a solid thumping of the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers by a final score of 81-49.

The Lady Cougars never trailed in the contest. Jara Gasper nailed a 3-point basket on the fourth trip down the floor to give the home team a 5-2 lead that they would never relinquish. Cleveland State shot a blistering 52 percent from the floor in the first half (50 percent for the game) while holding their guests to only 35 percent and causing 18 turnovers and grabbing 11 steals.

The Cleveland State offense warmed a bit midway through the first half as they went on a 20-7 run. Jasper hit another long-range shot, Ciera Anderson added three quick buckets in the paint and Robyn Anthony took a pair of steals and turned them into easy baskets during the run. Shea Nunn added a hook shot in the paint and a nice floater along the baseline while Me'Lisa Martinez chipped in with a pair of short jumpers and Mercedes Owens and Hannah Brown connected from downtown to help the Lady Cougars to a 44-26 halftime lead.

The Lady Cougars maintained a 20-plus point lead throughout most of the second half. Gasper rained down two more shots from three-point land in the early part of the half while Carley Fetzer, Shadave Taylor, Tre'Ketta Bonds and Chelsea Jones all made their mark in the scoring column.

Gasper paced the Lady Cougars (9-5) with 21 points and five rebounds, Nunn added 12 points and six boards, Brown finished with seven points while Anderson, Anthony, Owens and Martinez added six points apiece. Amber Fullbright led the Lady Cavaliers with 12 points while Taylor Settlemyre and Ashley Chavira added 11 points apiece.

Cleveland State will return to action in January as the men host Tennessee Temple on Jan. 7 and the Lady Cougars host Georgia Northwestern on Jan. 8
