KNOXVILLE — No. 1 seed Tennessee will meet No. 4 seed Maryland at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., on Sunday in the NCAA Women's Basketball Sweet 16. Tip time will be noon Eastern on ESPN.

No. 3 seed Louisville (32-4) will meet No. 7 LSU (21-12) in the other Sweet 16 game in Louisville. That game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Vols, 29-5, are making their fifth-straight and 32nd overall appearance in the round of 16, while the #11/9 Terrapins, 26-6, are there for the third year in a row and the 11th time overall. UT holds a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series, with Tennessee carrying a three-game winning streak vs. Maryland into this weekend's match-up.

The Terps and Lady Vols last played on Nov. 26, 2005, with (then) #2/1 UT claiming an 80-75 victory over #10/10 Maryland at the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Tennessee and Maryland have not met in NCAA tourney play since March 31, 1989, when #1/1 UT toppled #5/3 Maryland, 77-65, in an NCAA Final Four semifinal game in Tacoma, Wash. The Lady Vols went on to defeat Auburn in the title game to claim their second national championship. Current Lady Vol head coach Holly Warlick was an assistant to Pat Summitt during that time.

As for 2014, UT advanced to the Sweet 16 by defeating St. John's, 67-51, in Knoxville on Monday night. The Terps moved on by holding off Texas on Tuesday night, 69-64, in College Park, Md.
