MADISONVILLE — The Lady Wildcats clawed their way to their fifth consecutive district win Thursday evening at Sequoyah.

The Lady Chiefs put up quite a fight, but ultimately it was Polk County which walked away with a 9-8 victory.

The Lady Wildcats started the first inning out by scoring five runs, scored by Kaitlyn Williams, Lydia Triplett, Hannah Triplett, Emily Bates, and Felecia Johnson. Ashlynn Johnson brought in three runners, while Felecia Johnson batted in one.

The second inning gave Polk County the chance to add two more runs when a hit by Hannah Triplett brought home Kaitlyn Williams and Lydia Triplett.

By the top of the fourth inning the Lady Wildcats had a 7-0 lead over the Lady Chiefs, but Sequoyah proved that they wouldn’t go down easily.

In the bottom of the fourth the home team scored two runs, which were followed up with an additional four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Polk County was able to increase its lead by another two runs in the top of the sixth, thanks to a double by Lily Cuzzort.

Sequoyah managed two more runs of their own before the sixth inning was over.

Once again the Lady Wildcats had a lead of only one run, with one inning remaining. The Lady Chiefs held off the Polk County bats, only to see the visitors return the favor in the bottom of the seventh.

Jordan Triplett pitched all seven innings and struck out four Sequoyah batters.

The Lady Wildcats remain undefeated in District 5-AA and will finish out their district play next week against Sweetwater on Tuesday, and Meigs County on Thursday.
