The show choir, Revolution, will have its spring concert April 16 at 7 p.m. For this performance, Revolution alumni have been invited to perform gospel music from years past. On April 17, the advanced sixth-grade choir Rhapsody will have its spring concert at 6:30 p.m. and the advanced concert choir, Lake Forest Singers, will perform at 7:30 p.m. All Spring Concerts are in the Lake Forest Auditorium with a $2 admission for adults and $1 for students.
In preparation for next school year, auditions for Revolution and Lake Forest Singers will be April 19 and 20, 3:45 to 6 p.m. at Lake Forest. Any fifth-grade student interested in auditioning for Rhapsody should contact director Joshua Wenger to schedule an audition time.
Revolution will also be performing gospel music at several area churches this spring. Alumni of the group are invited to rehearse on the evening of April 12 and perform at the churches. They will perform April 22 at Washington Avenue Baptist, April 29 at Covenant Baptist, and May 20 at Clingan Ridge Baptist. All services begin at 6 p.m.
To end the school year, the advanced choirs go on several trips. Rhapsody and Singers will travel to participate in the Choir Share Festival at UTC. Singers will later travel to Pigeon Forge to participate in the Music in the Parks Festival followed by a day at Dollywood. Revolution will travel to Orlando, Fla., where the group will perform in Downtown Disney. Lastly, Revolution will be going to Sevierville, Tennessee to perform in the opening session of the Tennessee Association of Middle Schools Conference at the Wilderness Resort in June.
This summer, Revolution will host its second annual Kid’s Show Choir Camp July 9-13 at Lake Forest. Students going into grades 4-6 are invited to participate each day from 9 a.m. to noon to learn a Broadway medley to be performed Friday evening, July 13, for family and friends. This camp is open to any student of the specified age in the Bradley County area. For more information and a registration form, go to www.lakeforestchoirs.com. Registration is due May 18, 2012.
In the midst of rehearsals, performances and travel, the Music Department recently announced a Keys For Success Campaign. This campaign is raising money to install a piano keyboard and music technology lab at Lake Forest. They are currently seeking local businesses willing to make donations to this $40,000 project.
