Large group attend Polk County 4-H public speaking competition

The Polk County 4-H Clubs held the County 4-H Public Speaking contest on Feb. 10 with 53 4-H members from across the county competing in their grade level at First Baptist Church in Benton.

4-H is proud of the accomplishments of the many 4-H members that learn the valuable life skill of communications through Public Speaking.

Contest such as 4-H Public Speaking help members gain a skills that will remain with them throughout life.

This year a record number of 4-H members entered their local club contest. The top speakers were invited to the county contest.

Awards presented in the fourth- grade division were first place, Logan Tallent from Copper Basin Elementary; second place, Teagan Davis from Benton Elementary; and third place, Katherine Moats from Benton Elementary.

Participants in the fourth-grade division were Emily Bates, Sydney Beauman, Melody Davis, Abby Droke, Jena Fritts, and Isabella Payne.

Awards presented in the fifth- grade division were first place, Keri Beth Cox from South Polk Elementary; second place, Anna Futlz from the 4-H Home School Club; and third place, Ally Morrow from South Polk. Participants in the fifth-grade division were Brandi Bargeron, Grace Steely, Matthew Kimsey, Emilia Mercado, and Justin Moates

Awards presented in the sixth grade division were first place, Skylar Hatcher from Chilhowee Middle School; second place, Chloe McNelly from the 4-H Home School Club; and third place, Jacob Moates from Chilhowee Middle School. Participants in the sixth-grade division were Bailey Aaron, Nikki Ball, Leah Greenwood, Eli Hicks, Megan Morgan, Brandon Payne, Dakota Prince, Emily Pritchett and Kayla Thomas.

Awards in the seventh-grade division were first place, Trea Waters from Copper Basin High; second place, Kristen Ward from Copper Basin High and third place, Kamy Taylor from Copper Basin High School. Participants in seventh grade were Blake Chastain, Emily Dye, Winter Fisher, Makayla Killian, Ashley Scott, Stonewall Stinnett, Lauren Bracket, Scout Collins, and Hannah Jack.

Awards in the eighth-grade division were first place, Hannah Mcnelly from the 4-H Home School Club; second place, Janie Raburn from Chilhowee Middle School; and third place, Beth Wilson from Chilhowee Middle School. Participants in the eighth- grade division were Caroline Allen, Kayla Allen, Riley Crisp, Cassidy Goss, Taytum Kidd, Riley LaBree, Kelsey Limburg, Baylee Wood, and Holly Wooten.

Awards in the 10th-grade division were first place, Nathan McNelly, who also placed fifth in Regional Competition.

All first-place recipients will represent Polk County in the Regional 4-H Public Speaking Contest. The 4-H clubs thanks First Baptist Church staff and members for the use of the facility.

Volunteering to judge were Jim Ledford, Bill Risko, Gloris Risko, Vivian Talmadge, and Lew Talmadge, Morgan Fields, Nicholas Lewis, Mat Merker, Chase Hicks, Alice Kingery, and Besty Switzer.
