Larry Richard Hillard, 66, passed away from a long-term illness on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Frederick, Md.
A longtime resident of Cleveland, he was the Human Resources manager at Duracell for more than 20 years before he retired in 2007. Prior to that, he was a teacher and principal in Virginia for more than 16 years, after graduating from Virginia Tech in 1968. He is of the Methodist faith.
An avid woodworker and antique collector, he also loved music, books and his loyal dog, Copper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruby Hillard. He was their only child and was born in Bristol, Va., on Nov. 9, 1946.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie (Dalton, Ga.) Hillard; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Lori and Todd Lankford (Austin, Texas), Amy and Amit Marathe (Frederick, Md.) and Joy Montgomery (Chattanooga).
He was the proud grandparent of four grandchildren: Richard Jacob, Samuel Todd, Grace Virginia and Ava Elizabeth. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, two nieces, many cousins and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with the service immediately following. Pastor Tony Dunn will be officiating. Interment services will be held in Danville, Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to North Cleveland Baptist Church, 2815 N. Ocoee Street, Cleveland TN 37312, for the Prayer Garden fund.
