Lee CC competes at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE — In their second cross country meet of the season, first at the traditional collegiate distances, the Lee University Lady Flames finished ninth and the Flames were eighth in the Commodore Classic. Vanderbilt University hosted the 5K and 8K races at Percy Ward Park.

Lee will have three weeks until their next scheduled event. Both teams will head to Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 5 for the Greater Louisville Classic.

Cayce Bryan paced the Lady Flames with a time of 19:38.66 and finished 15th out of 117 runners. Ashley Matthews was the second Lady Flame across the finish line. Matthews placed 26th (19:56.99).

Victoria Yates was 62nd (20:59.06) and Emily Arnesen was 67th (21:07.99). Elizabeth Sillcocks was 74th (21:23.88), Alexis Hewitt was 80th (21:31.41) and Emily Bryan finished 82nd (21:49.21).

Union University claimed the team victory with 59 points. Christopher Newport was second at 73, and Texas A&M-Commerce was third with 107 points. The Lady Flames’ total score was 219.

In the men’s race, Camden Perez was the fastest Flame to the finish line. Perez posted a time of 27:22.56 to place 33rd out of 118 runners.

Joseph Crook (27:27.87) and Patrick Shultz (27:29.25) were 36th and 37th, respectively. Emmanuel Kipchumba was 43rd (27:46.88), and Terris Elliott was 44th (27:46.93).

Adam Gullette rounded out the Lee finishers. Gullette recorded a time of 28:33.57 for 61st place.

Texas A&M-Commerce tallied 43 points and held off Ohio Northern University (48) to earn the team win. Christopher Newport was third with 114 points. The Flames had a score of 178.
