Flagler College (Fla.) is the tournament leader with an impressive 294 total at the Old South Golf Club. The field is loaded with NCAA Division II squads and UNC-Pembroke is second (301), Florida Tech third (306), SCAD-Savannah fourth (307), Armstrong Atlantic and Carson Newman tied for fifth (309) and host Landers (311) are all in front of the Lady Flames (312).
Florida Tech's Felicia Leftinger and SCAD's Alazne Urizar fired even par 72s on the 5,864 yard course to hold the top spot in the medalist competition. Flagler's Joanna Yoo and Linn Webber are tied with Pembroke's Laura Bird for the third position, each carding a 73.
Madison Alexander was the Lee leader with a 75 and is tied for 12th in the medalist hunt. Courtney Shelton and Bernadette Little each finished with a 77 and are tied for the 21st spot. Newcomers Sarah Robertson and Callie Kitchens struggled with an 83 and 88.
"We did some good things today but overall we just gave away some easy shots," said coach John Maupin. "Against a strong field like this, we can't afford to do that. There are still 18 holes to go and we are focused on putting together a good round tomorrow."
The large field was made up of 18 teams and 104 individual players.
