The Children’s Advocacy Center recently received some needed help with renovation from students at Lee University.

The counseling service is still converting offices in the location they moved to last year.

Female students from Livingston Hall, Livingston East and Keeble Hall selected the organization to be the recipient of funds from their T-shirts for Lee’s annual residential life spirit competition Dorm Wars.

“Every dorm chooses a charity or nonprofit to support from the Dorm Wars T-shirts,” Shannon Morris, a senior graduating in December, said.

Morris said they decided to give half of the money to the nonprofit and use the rest to buy shoes to donate to the center for children they serve who are in need.

Morris said about 12 students from the doors volunteered to paint offices and help with miscellaneous things that needed to be done for a few hours on a recent Saturday.

“We just thought it would be a great cause to support,” Morris said. “A lot of people don’t know about the Children’s Advocacy Center, but it is needed in the community.”

Fellow student Katie Rinaudo said she had not known about the organization until her dorm selected them as their nonprofit for the semester.

“It was really cool,” Rinaudo said. “ I want to work with overseas, but I want to work with children who have been through trauma.”

“I think everyone was excited to support them,” Morris said.

One of reasons the students chose the Children’s Advocacy Center to receive the funds was because

CAC Family Advocate Erika Cullum said the center has had other volunteers from Lee before and they enjoy working with them.

Cullum said she was friends with a resident assistant in this hall and that is how the groups connected.
