The combined choir of several musical groups on campus will give a public preview of the Washington Inaugural concert. Once again, the talent we know in Cleveland will be shared with the nation and the world.
I was privileged to be on campus last fall when U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander announced that the Inaugural Committee had selected the students from Lee to perform on Jan. 21 in our nation’s capitol.
My words then were, “Wow! What an honor to the university and Cleveland, and to all those chosen to make the trip!”
To be wrapped in their new pea coats and scarves, these inspiring vocalists certainly cannot be overlooked. Their beautiful voices will not only ring out across Washington, D.C., but once again these talented vocalists will serve as worthy ambassadors for our Cleveland and Bradley County community, for Southeast Tennessee and for our entire state. Truly, they will be symbolic of the beauty, the pride and the fabric of the United States of America, and all who call themselves Americans.
Under the direction of Dr. William Green, the group has been constantly rehearsing and even presented a special performance last Sunday at North Cleveland Church of God.
On Monday, Jan. 7, I was honored to be on campus and participate in an interview for “Fox and Friends,” to be aired on the morning of the Inauguration.
Fox news reporters and Lee alum Todd Starnes interviewed Lee University President Dr. Paul Conn and me. In the spots, we explained what this event means to Lee University and to the city of Cleveland. I am sure this show will not be the only one to feature the singers. You just can't overlook such great talent! These are the best of the best!
Let's all come out tonight and give Cleveland's best ambassadors a great sendoff as they go to Washington to make history.
The spirit of Lee and ‘The City With Spirit’ ... it’s a great combination!
