Library Corner: ‘Road to Zanzibar’ will be shown Tuesday at the library

Friends of the Library Association has announced Mark Gimenez will be the guest speaker at the Fall Author Event Oct. 16. FOLA will be offering Gimenez’s books for sale at the library next month. More information on the Fall Author Event will be provided later this summer.

Gimenez has written six novels and co-authored a children’s book with his son, Cole. He specializes in the thriller genre, especially legal thrillers.

He grew up in Galveston County, Texas, and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He then attended the University of Notre Dame Law School earning a doctor of laws magna cum laude.

After 10 years of practicing law with a large Dallas law firm where he became a partner, Gimenez left to practice solo and to write. He lives outside of Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife and two sons.

“Road to Zanzibar” staring Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour will be shown in the Cleveland Bradley Community Room Tuesday at 7 p.m. This is part of the Classic Comedy Movie night series. All are invited to this public event and popcorn will be served.

There are still a few spaces available in the Resume Writing class held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. All computer classes are free to patrons with a valid library card and a $5 refundable deposit. Reservations are taken at the Non-fiction desk located on the second floor.

Lisette Schumacher was the winner of the first “Between the Covers” drawing for submitting a book review for our adult summer reading program. She won a $25 gift card to Lasater’s Coffee & Tea. The next drawing will be July 16, so submit your reviews today. The book reviews will be posted on our new website as soon as it is up and running.

Teens will be having an Improv Comedy Class on Friday as the library opens after hours for teens ages 13-17. Who Night: “Dr. Who” episodes and Bow Tie making will be activities for Saturday. All programs are from 7 to 9 p.m.

The next book club discussion group will be reading “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. The book club will be held July 12 in the Community Room and the discussion will be led by Richard “Tiger” Jones. All are invited to this open book club group.
