Library Corner: FOLA’s fall luncheon to be Oct. 6

The Friends of the Library Association’s fall luncheon, with guest speaker Susan Gregg Gilmore, will be held on Oct. 6 at the Cleveland Country Club.

Merchants Alley will again interest shoppers at the luncheon with goods from Arbonne International, Cleveland Therapeutic Massage, Daylilies, The Orange Blossom Boutique, The Painted Lady, Paisleys, The Red Ribbon, Sara’s Hallmark, The Shoe Tree and Silpada Design Jewelry.

Merchants Alley will open at 10 a.m. and continue after the speaker until 2 p.m.

Tickets for this event are $35. All funds raised by FOLA will go to purchase books for the Children’s Department.

Reservations can be made by sending your check payable to FOLA, 795 Church St., Cleveland, TN 37311. Your check is your reservation.

Computer classes for October are now available for registration.

All classes require a $5 deposit at time of reservation. The deposit will be returned to you at the first class. All classes are free with a valid library card:

Basic Computer: Oct. 3 and 5, 10 a.m. until noon; Intermediate Computer: Oct. 10 and 12, 10 a.m. until noon; Basic Email: Oct. 11 and 13, 3 until 5 p.m.; Basic Excel: Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, 6 until 8 p.m.; Basic Internet: Oct. 4 and 6, 3 until 5 p.m.; Introductory Digital Photography: Oct. 24 and 26, 10 a.m. until noon; Basic PowerPoint: Oct. 18 and 20, 3 until 5 p.m.; Basic Word: Oct. 17 and 19, 10 a.m. until noon; Your kids and the Internet: Oct. 25 and 27, 3 until 5 p.m.

There will be Ebook Reader classes about using your device with the free library R.E.A.D.S program.

There will be a signup sheet at the nonfiction desk for each class. There is a limit of 12 patrons per class.

Please note that there must be a minimum of three patrons registered for the class to take place. If the minimum number of students is not reached, those signed up will be contacted before the scheduled date of the class.

Come to the workshop with your device: Oct. 7, Nook; Oct. 15 iPhone/iPad; Oct. 21, Android Phone or Tablet; and Oct. 29, Amazon Kindle. All workshops are from noon until 2 p.m.

Movies from Classic Books will be held Sept. 29 with a showing of “Sense and Sensibility” at 6 p.m. in the Cleveland Bradley Community Room. Stop by Lasaster’s for a snack or dinner before the movie.
