Snow, snow and then came more snow. Hope you were able to get to the library before the snow hit and curl up with a good book before a roaring fire. The library was able to reopen on Monday.

For all those who had books due during our closed days, we are not charging fines for Jan. 10, 11 or 12. The library follows the Cleveland Government closing policy. The library posts its closings on the three main local television stations.

Free legal advice for low income parents of minor children in Bradley County for family law matters will be available at the library in the Hiwassee Room Jan. 18 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred for document review. Call 756-0128 to schedule an appointment.

There will be a behind-the-scenes tour of the library Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. Meet in the lobby to see areas that are not available to the general public. The tour lasts about 45 minutes.

Friends of the Library Association will hold its first Book and Coffee Series on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Craigmiles-Johnston House History Branch Library. Becky Arnold Daniels review the classic: “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Come join this interesting discussion at this free FOLA event. FOLA provides the coffee. The Book and Coffee Series meets the third Friday of the month.

“Warm Up at the Library” with iced Caribbean tea and hot cruise tips Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Carmichael House Conference Room. It may be cold outside, but it’s warm inside the library — and in the Caribbean.

For many, a Caribbean winter cruise melts the icy days. Deborah of Simple Cruise Deal will help you make the most of your days at sea by sharing travel advice and strategies for cruising. Sign up at the Reference Desk or by calling the library at 472-2163. Attendees can enter a drawing for a free cruise.

The first movie of the new year will be “Time Machine” on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Cleveland Bradley Community Room. Come and enjoy this family movie in the comfort of the library.

The Book Worm Café will be opening soon. Look for an announcement of the new vendor soon.

Tax forms will be available at the library mid-January. Copies are also available at

The library will be closed Jan 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday.
