Library offers workshops during June

The library is closed today for routine maintenance and will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The library will open Tuesday morning at regular hours.

“Make a Splash: Read,” the summer reading program, is now under way. Children of all ages should register in the Children’s Department and get their reading log to complete by July 31 for prizes and drawings. There are some special summer reading activities you can sign up for as well.

On Mondays from 2 to 3 p.m., Squish Squash Cookery will teach children, ages 7 through 12, how to make some fun food.

An Ocean of Fun Crafts will be held on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. for children, age 6 and over.

Baby Beluga Crafts will be on Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. for children, age 5 and under.

High Seas Adventure Films will be held on Wednesdays for all ages from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Registration to participate in these activities is limited and required. Call the Children’s Department to sign up or register in person at the Children’s Room counter.

The Scholastic Book Fair has begun and will continue until June 11. Remember all books are half price.

Computer classes for the month of June are available for registration. Call the Reference Department or sign up at the nonfiction desk or reference desk on the second floor of the library. All reservations are on a first come basis and are free to patrons with a valid library card.

Computer (Basic): June 2 and 3, 2 to 4 p.m.; June 23 and 24, 10 a.m. to noon.

E-mail (Basic): June 21 and 22, 2 to 4 p.m.

Excel (Basic): June 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2 to 4 p.m.

Internet (Basic): June 9 and 10, 2 to 4 p.m.; June 28 and 29, 2 to 4 p.m.

Word (Basic): June 7 and 8, 10 a.m. to noon.

The library will host the following workshops during the month of June. The workshops will be held in the Carmichael Room. Reservations are required as space is limited. Call the Reference Department or stop by the reference desk or nonfiction desk located on the second floor of the library.

Learn about the Tennessee Career Center: Workshop on June 8, 3 to 4:30 p.m. It can help you in your job search.

Creating a legacy through proper estate planning: “How to avoid the common legal, accounting and investing pitfalls” on June 10, 2 to 3:30 p.m. or from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will be led by Daniel Peterson CPA, Doug Blackwell Esq. and Bobby Ludwig, financial advisor.

Business opportunities: Franchise 101 — workshop by the Small Business Development Center on June 24 at noon. Bring a sack lunch or purchase lunch at the Bookworm Café.
