Lola Juanita Davis, 87 of Englewood, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2013, at her home.
She passed peacefully and went to be with her Savior while surrounded by her family.
She was born May 26, 1926, in east Etowah to the late Robert Foree and Vesta Mae Rowland Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rutherford B. Davis; daughter, Jane Davis Phemister and brother, Ralph Davis. She was the first of 12 children and married Rutherford B. Davis in Rossville, Ga., on June 25, 1947, and was married 52 years.
She attended Claxton School, Polk County High School, McMinn County High School and was the first of 11 siblings to graduate from Englewood High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society all through high school.
Her first job after graduating was at Sears Roebuck & Company. Then she worked at Eureka Garment Company, Rowland Pontiac, Artcraft Industries and Key Tire, returning to Sears and staying until retiring.
She was a member of Professional Secretaries International, Sequoyah Chapter and served as the treasurer. Wildwood Baptist Church is where she was a member and served as a Sunday school teacher, Women’s Missionary Union member and VBS teacher. She went on several mission trips to Honduras after retiring. Mission trips were another way her life as a Christian was displayed to others.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law: Loyd Davis of Cleveland, Bill and Madge Davis of Cookeville, Don and Jill Davis of Englewood, Jeff and Linda Davis of Flowery Branch, Ga.; six brothers and sisters-in-law: Gene and Nancy Davis of Athens, Harold Davis of Athens, Boyd and Wilma Davis of Englewood, Glen and Linda Davis of Cleveland, Jim and Bobbie Davis of Cookeville, Tom and Gail Davis of Athens, Barbara Davis of Englewood; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Margaret and Joe Pardue of Cleveland, Ruth and Sherman Patterson of Knoxville, Betty and Pat Torbett of Englewood, and Trula and Ray Patterson of Englewood; 10 grandchildren: Ben Davis, Laura Hudson, Leslie Tucker, Becky Kinser, Beth Gilliam, Katie Mannle, Merry Flatt, Rachel Davis, Brittany Davis and Noah Davis; 10 great-grandchildren: Tyler Davis, Allie Davis, Ellie Hudson, McCoy Hudson, Maddie Tucker, Meredith Mannle, Evelyn Kinser, Jillian Kinser, Jessicca Gilliam and Tara Gilliam; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Wildwood Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow visitation with the Rev. Bill Vest officiating.
Interment will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Edgemon-Wildwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be brothers Harold Davis, Boyd Davis, Glen Davis, Jim Davis, Tommy Davis and Gene Davis.
