A charitable contribution to Bradley/Cleveland Public Education Foundation was received from Lonza on behalf of the Charleston facility. This gift has been designated for a science or engineering academic award and will be given in the form of a mini-grant to a local Cleveland or Bradley County classroom.

“The generous contributions from Lonza and like donors have tremendous impact in the classrooms of our local schools. They provide supplies, technology and outside resources simply not covered within the normal school budgets,” foundation director Lynn Voelz said.

Gifts such as this enable the Foundation to accomplish its mission — to partner with Bradley County Schools and Cleveland City Schools to raise community awareness, gain financial support and enhance teaching and learning. BCPEF was established in 2003 and has channeled significant private support to the local schools.

Lonza is a global company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. The local plant is situated on the Hiwassee River in north Bradley County. Lonza serves the needs of the life-science industry, thus its interest in supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. More than 100 years ago, Lonza began as a small Swiss electricity company, making a few chemicals on the banks of the river Lonza in the Valais region of the Swiss Alps. Now, 110 years later, it is a leading supplier to the pharmaceutical, health care and life-science industry.
