Lou Emma Crox Werner, 84, of Ooltewah, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Charleston on July 26, 1928. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 and continued her education to receive a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She belonged to Catoosa Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Teachers’ Association.

She taught 31 years at Cloud Springs Elementary and substituted and volunteered for another 14 years.

She was elected to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” for several years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben McClary Crox Sr. and Bessie Bryant Crox; and two brothers: Will Bryant Crox and Ben McClary Crox Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles Dantzler Werner; two daughters and sons-in-law: Marcetta and Nelson Wong of Ooltewah and Keena and Brian Masters of Vero Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren and spouses: Dustin and Jessica Wong of Ooltewah, Travis and Kayla Wong of Ringgold, Ga., and Rachel and Phillip Flores of Spring, Texas; one great-grandchild, Ansley Wong of Ringgold; niece, Linda and Vernon Johnson of Ooltewah; and a nephew, Walter Lee and Barbara Crox of Cleveland.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Curt McKee will conduct the service Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the church.

Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be the grandchildren and sons-in-law.
