Luther Coleman Yates Jr., 60, a resident of Etowah, passed away, Sunday night, Nov. 25, 2012, in an Etowah health care facility.

He was born on June 5, 1952, in Winnsboro, S.C.

He was a son of the late Luther and Mary Yates. He lived the majority of his adult life in Florida, but had relocated to make the Etowah and Benton area his home the past 12 years.

He worked as an electrician and HVAC contractor. He loved music and was an honest and true friend to all he met.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Yates.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters: Wendy Yates of Calhoun and Sally Hill (Josh) of Cleveland: two sons: Luther C. Yates III (Tammy) of Calhoun and Ben Yates (Amanda) of Charleston; four sisters: Linda Thompson (Stacy) of Chester, S.C., Ronda Lee Wright of Shippensburg, Pa., Wanda Ellis (Ray) and Tammie Haney (Terry), both from Winnsboro, S.C.; two brothers: Warren Yates and Wayne Yates, both from Winnsboro; six grandchildren; a special friend, Ralph Franks; his beloved dog, “Jobe”; and several other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday Nov. 30, 2012, at Benton Church of God, 587 Clemmer Ferry Road, Benton, with Pastor Jerry Herron officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday prior to the service time.
