Lynn Goins Newman, 84, of Athens, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 21, 2014, at her residence.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was preceded in death by her husband, William M. "Bill" Newman on July 18, 1985; son, Jackie Newman; parents, James William "Bill" and Mary Ellen Sanders Goins; five sisters: Anna Bell Milsap, Lena Anderson, Imogene Ghorley, Sophia Vaughn and Levernia Lee Duncan; and four brothers: Stephen Goins, Arvil Goins, Pete Goins and James Goins.
She was a charter member of Boyd Memorial Church of God and received her LPN degree from Tennessee Technology Center. Her past employment included prize biscuit maker at Hardees, Cafeteria at E. K. Baker School and as a nurse at Athens Regional Medical Center. Her children are so grateful for such a loving Christian mother.
Survivors include two daughters: Bettye Ingle and husband, Calvin, of Cleveland and Brenda Bouchard of Athens; two sons: Billy Newman and Bobby Newman, both of Athens; five sisters, and three brothers-in-law: Dorcas Mae Ratledge, Mollie and Clyde Shelton, Charlotte and John Henry Shelton and Hazel and Bobby Collins, all of Athens, and Ruth Stephens of Niota; eight grandchildren: Alline Ingle, Angie Moore, Shane Newman, Allen Bouchard, Christine Hamby, Adam Newman, Daniels Colloms and Will Newman; several great and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Ollie Lankford officiating.
Interment will be at noon Friday, April 25, 2014, in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service at funeral home in Athens.
