Maifest at the Library

The 9th annual Maifest was a German/American festival celebrates with German goodies, music, children, do-gooders, local small businesses and soccer fans.

The event was a collaboration between Montessori Kinder International School, the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library.

It was attended by community members far and wide, with a great German population. bratwurst, pretzels and sauerkraut represented some of the best of German food culture. Attendees had the opportunity to mingle with Germans in authentic Bavarian dress, soaking up language and culture.

Local vendors were hands-on with their locally made products. Honey, beeswax candles and soaps, Spa treatments were available, as well as the MK Plus German Language School showcased their program for everyone.

Montessori Kinder allowed children to explore in the classroom with the didactic Montessori materials. Teachers and parents had time to visit while children were exploring hands-on.

The Montessori Kinder did an amazing performance, showing their musical training by voice and instruments.

The library provided story times and promoted the “Geek the Library” campaign, while children getting their faces painted by an exceptional face painting artist.

The raised funds support thelocal Boys and Girls Club for a DreamCourt basketball court on Lay Street.

Brain Lessig, unit director of the Boys & Girls Club Powers Unit, said, “I want to thank everyone involved for what they have done to make the DreamCourt a reality. It is great to see everyone in our community come together for a common goal that will improve the Boys and Girls Clubs and The Lay Street community.”
