He was the son of the late Blanche Martin McKenzie and Weaver McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: John Tyler McKenzie, Hansel McKenzie and Frank McKenzie.
He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, having fought in World War II and the Korean War, in which he received a purple heart.
Survivors include his sister, Ollie McKenzie Trundle of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; niece, Maxine McKenzie Elkins and her husband, Lester, of Charleston; great-nephew, Tim McKenzie and family; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Remembrance of Life graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Meigs County with Pastor Hugh Bryan officiating.
