Melvin Key, 79, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, in a local hospital.

He was the son of the late William and Lania Key. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters; and one stepson, Timothy Morrow.

He was a retired security guard, who worked at M&M Mars and also Coca-Cola. He was a veteran of United States Army who served during the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Key; two daughters: Michelle Runyon and her husband, Paul, and Becky Cass, all of Cleveland; one son, Mark Key and his wife, Sonya, of Athens; two stepsons; Freddie Morrow and Donnie Morrow and his wife, Pat, all of Riceville; stepdaughter, Janice Wooden and her husband, Tony, of Decatur; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Revs. Jackie Epperson and Sam Blankenship officiating.

Interment will follow in the Short Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
