Monroe Area Council for the Arts will present comedian Leanne Morgan, a finalist on Nick at Nite’s “Funniest Mom,” at Barker Auditorium, Hiwassee College in Madisonville on Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. The performance is supported by funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Leanne Morgan is a graduate of the University of Tennessee who exudes Southern charm. She has been called “Scarlett O’Hara turned soccer mom.” With her June Cleaver looks and plantation accent, she has quickly gained popularity in the comedy world.

She was a finalist at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival. It is rare for a rural Appalachian mother of three who grew up on a farm to find her way to the stage as a stand-up comic. Morgan’s journey into comedy is far from the standard profile. Looking for a nonintrusive respite from family life, she turned to selling jewelry at in-home parties.

After returning to Knoxville, Morgan appeared on “The View,” the “Dr. Phil” show, Paula Deen’s show, and toured three years with the Southern Fried Chicks. Her style of comedy combines Southern charm and hilarious storytelling about her own life. People often accuse her of spying because she seems to be living the same lives they are.

Tickets are $20 ($18/advance) for adults, and $10 for students. Advance tickets are available with cash or check at all Monroe County Citizens National Banks in Monroe County, Century 21 Hendershot Realty in Madisonville, by credit card online at www.monroearts.com or call 423-442-3210.
