The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, have some new young missionaries working in the area.

The missionaries are helping with a Christmas musical planned for tonight at 6:30 at the church, 4200 Pryor Road N.E. Refreshments will be served after the program. The public is invited to attend.

The young missionaries work in pairs — two elders or two sisters.

Connor Thompson, 19, from Draper, Utah, and A.J. Larson, 21, of Sandy, Utah, are the elders.

Prior to beginning his 18 to 2 year mission journey, Thompson was studying business at the LDS Business College. He has a great interest in creative writing.

Thompson started his mission about 10 month ago. He has served sites in Virginia an Knoxville.

He said his goal is to help “bring souls to Christ” and to help bring others closer to Christ.

The experience has been “very humbling,” he noted.

He said the “personal growth that I have had, I did not think I would.”

Larson had been working in a movie theater prior to the mission. He likes to draw and is “into cartoons.” When he completes his mission he hopes to study animation to do for cartoons on television or video.

He is 15 months into his mission. Most of the time he has spent in the North Carolina and Tennessee.

He is enjoying meeting new people.

He said the mission has shown him he needs much more patience. He says the mission has helped him to “deepen his commitment to following Jesus Christ ... truly committing yourself to Christ is more important than anything I have done.”

Larson enjoys meeting new people.

The sister team had a substitute on the day of the interview. Christiana Quada was being accompanied by Brianna Fox, who is assigned to Hixson.

Quada, 22, is from Chester, Va. Ten months into her mission, she has served in the Johnson City and Rockwood areas before coming to Cleveland.

Prior to beginning her mission, Quada worked at the Cracker Barrel. When she completes the mission, Quada plans to attend college and major in theater with an emphasis on teaching speech education.

She noted, the mission is “the best experience of my life. I love it. When you try to help someone come closer to Jesus Christ, you learn how to love them. It has changed me to see people come closer to the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

One of the things she has notice about this area is “so many people have a lot of faith. It’s wonderful.”

She explained the mission can be “so hard. It’s hard when you care so much about Christ and the gospel and it is rejected. You put all your heart and soul into it. It is exhausting and awesome. He’s the only way I could do it. ... What I’m doing is so important.”

Individuals wishing to speak with one of the missionaries may call the brothers at 423-994-1734 or the sisters at 423-503-9364.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints service is at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
