Tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Mother Son Dance, sponsored by the City of Athens Parks and Recreation Office.

The dance will be held Nov. 10 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at McMinn County High School with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. There are only 500 tickets available.

Tickets will not be sold at the door and due to fire marshal regulations, everyone entering the building must have a ticket.

“The Mother Son Dance is a great opportunity for quality family time and I encourage all mothers and sons to put down their phones and video games and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to spend an evening together,” said Austin Fesmire, director of Parks and Recreation. “When organizing the dance the expression, ‘You’re going to miss me when I’m gone,’ always comes to my mind as boys have a tendency to think they can’t wait to get out into the world on their own and become men. Many of the young men in our community have attended the dance and the time spent with their moms and the photos are priceless, and no doubt memories to be cherished forever.”

Professional digital photographs will be available at the dance in packages of two 5x7s and eight wallets. Photo vouchers can be purchased before the dance with your tickets or onsite at the dance.

On dance night, all sons attending the dance will receive a complimentary dinner from the child’s menu at Shoney’s with the purchase of a mother’s dinner. Door prizes will also be given away during the dance.

Tickets may be purchased online beginning Oct. 5 at www.cityofathenstn.com/parks; telephone at 423-744-2704; or in the Recreation Department located in the Athens Municipal Building at 815 North Jackson Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.
