Dr. Lori Murray-Underwood was recently appointed to the position of interim dean of Arts and Humanities at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.

Underwood graduated with honors from Bradley Central High School in 1989 and is the daughter of Cleveland residents C.L. and Linda Murray.

She currently chairs and teaches in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at CNU. She has authored three books and edited a volume of essays.

She was named CNU Professor of the Year by the Student Government in 2008 and won the first CNU Faculty Excellence Award in Service in 2012.

She has also served on the CNU Budget Advisory Committee as senator as well as chair and director of the Canon Leadership Scholars program.
