Accomplished area musician Dr. Douglas H. Manley, 42, of Athens and formerly of Cleveland, died Saturday.

He was presently serving as director of music and organist at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens and organist for Saturday and Holy Day services at St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Cleveland.

The former Clevelander studied at Lee University, Carson-Newman College, the University of Louisville and received his doctorate from the world-renowned University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

He had previously served as director of music for First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, the music faculty of the Cleveland City Ballet and Cleveland State Community College.

Manley was currently serving as an assistant director of music and department chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens.

He was a published author on the subject of music and church music.

Funeral arrangements are to be announced later by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
