Mustangs earn freshman win

The Walker Valley freshman Mustangs beat Sequoyah 5-1 in seven innings on the baseball diamond Wednesday at Mike Turner Field, behind a strong pitching performance from Tanner Bryant.

Sequoyah managed just one hit off Bryant who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during his six innings of work.

The Mustangs pushed across one run in the fourth and the sixth innings. In the fourth, Walker Valley scored on an RBI single by Brice Gibson which plated Brandon Lindsey. Walker Valley added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The lone Sequoyah run crossed the plate in the sixth inning.

The freshman Mustangs are 4-2 on the season and are scheduled to play at Ooltewah today.
