SODDY-DAISY — The Walker Valley Mustangs jumped right into the District 3-AAA wrestling fire Tuesday night against Soddy-Daisy.

The Mustangs gave up losses in none of the 14 bouts inside the home of the Trojans in the 40-22 loss.

The meet opened with Soddy picking up a 19-7 major decision at 120 pounds. The Trojans followed up with wins at 106, 120, 126, 138, 145, 152, 170 and 285.

Walker Valley’s Austin Gregory and Ric Kennet got the only pins for the Mustangs. Gregory earned six points at 132 pounds and Kennett closed the deal at 195. Drake Haney won a 14-3 major decision at 113 while Billy Raulston won a 3-0 decision at 182 and Xzayvier Beckingham wrestled to an 8-1 victory at 220.

The Trojans picked up a big win at 145 with Tucker Russo battling Walker Valley’s Tyrus Hamrick. The pair fought to a regulation tie before Russo got the win on overtime.

Walker Valley coach Al Morris said afterward he expected nothing but a battle from the Trojans, and now has something to use as a measuring stick for the Mustangs who he said will improve over the long season.
