CPD officer Daniel Gibbs is working with the Cleveland Housing Authority community located on Lay Street for the event.
NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.
National Night Out events began being held in communities in 1994.
According to NNO officials, at present, more than 37 million people now take part in the events which are held in all 50 states.
Some 15,000 communities are expected to participate this year.
The city’s NNO will begin at 5 p.m. and last until 8 p.m.
The National Guard will be exhibiting and Franklin Academy associates will be providing free haircuts.
Bradley County Sheriff’s Office typically holds the NNO event at the same time; however, due to hot weather, county officials have moved the event to Oct. 2.
“Traditionally, hot August temperatures make it difficult for older adults to attend,” said Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for BCSO.
Gault added that a number of agencies in Tennessee as well as other states have opted to move the date of their NNO event in anticipation of cooler conditions.
