Nerva Catherine Collins Gorbett, 98, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, following several months of declining health.

She was born to the late John Pleas and Mary Elizabeth Collins on Feb. 10, 1914, in Cleveland.

She was a proud member of Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Azalea Garden Club, which gave her many years of joy. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jacen Everett Gorbett; their son, Jacen David Gorbett; sisters: Mabel McCarter, Meta Burger and Doris Stinnett; and brothers: Robert Collins, Herman Collins and John P. “Pete” Collins Jr.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barry and Nancy Hamilton of Jamestown, N.C.; two grandchildren and their spouses: David and Jill Hamilton of Jamestown, N.C., and Ron and Jamie Stoffel of High Point, N.C.; great-grandchildren: Jacen David Hamilton Jr., Hamilton Stoffel, Joshua Hamilton, Cole Stoffel, Mary Olivia Hamilton, Bethany Hamilton and Will Stoffel; sister, Ruth Davis; a brother, Joe Collins and wife, Juliah; and two sisters-in-law: Jewell Collins and Faye Collins, all of Cleveland.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Collins officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with her nephews serving as pallbearers.

The service will conclude with a white dove ceremony.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family extends appreciation to Barbara Leach, a special friend and caregiver for almost two years.
