Nora “Bid” Self, 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the family residence.

She was the daughter of the late Edna Kernea and John Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Mick” Self; daughters: Gena Self Parker and Naqunah Parker; a son, Bucky Self; sisters: Dimple Brock and Lillie Gurley; and a brother, Gene Johnson.

She was retired from Flowers Bakery and was a member of Conasauga River Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, John Self of Cleveland; two daughters: Joy “Tootie” Shook of Indianapolis and Dianne and Ray Brown of Toney, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Lois and J.P. Bates and Margie Johnson, all of Benton, Sue Self of Cleveland: sisters-in-law: Betty Johnson and Margaret Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Thomas Rogers officiating. Greg Rush will give the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Polk County.

The family will receive friends this evening from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
