The Lee University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, will perform with guest artist and composer Dr. Brian Nozny on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The program will feature pieces such as “Tumbao Talk” by Julie Davila, “Quick Blood” by Adam Silverman, “Parallel” by Nozny, and “Dark Passenger” by Harnsberger.

Nozny, an award-winning composer, will perform his piece for solo marimba titled “Thief.” He will also discuss various aspects of his compositions during the concert.

Nozny’s career as a percussionist, composer, and educator spans a wide array of musical styles, including classical, jazz, world, and popular genres. He has performed in an orchestral capacity with many orchestras throughout the country and previously served as the principal percussionist with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra.

Nozny’s original works and arrangements are performed regularly throughout the nation. Notable ensembles that have premiered his compositions include the Caixa Trio, the MASS Marimba Band, and NEXUS. His compositions have been published by Drop 6 Media, Henmar Press, and Innovative Percussion.

The Percussion Ensemble performs challenging percussion literature, involving a wide variety of percussion instruments. Over the years, the group has developed a reputation for musical excellence and expertise. Percussion majors participate in this ensemble, which is directed by Harnsberger, an internationally known percussionist/composer.

Harnsberger, assistant professor of percussion at Lee, is active throughout the year as a freelance percussionist and recitalist. He is a performing artist and clinician for Pearl Drums, Adams Musical Instruments, Innovative Percussion, Inc., Evans Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.

The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
