“Sirens” opens Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., with additional shows on Feb. 8, 14, 15, and a matinee on Feb. 16. The Valentine’s Day performance will start at 8 p.m. in order to give couples a chance to get dinner before the show.
Performances will be held at the newly unveiled Venue Creekside, the theater space in the Village Green Town Center behind Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.
The Guild, as producer of “Sirens,” is grateful to have entered into arrangements with Adam Lowe, an owner of the Venue, to accommodate its opening production.
The show will have a two-weekend run, including Valentine’s Day. Director Dan Buck notes it is not a coincidence. “Once we realized we’d be performing before and during Valentine’s Day, finding a love story seemed like the perfect choice.”
“Sirens” is a funny and charming story about a couple negotiating long-term love amidst mid-life crises, an empty nest, Facebook, and a Greek mythological figure.
“It’s very much a play about our lives — well, our lives plus a Greek Siren bent on enticing men with her song,” Buck said.
“The black box theater space of The Venue is flexible, top-of-the-line and perfect for an intimate live theater performance,” said Candy Tapper, founder and president of the guild.
As the OTG enters its final weeks of rehearsal before opening night Feb. 7, members have been garnering support from theater lovers all around Cleveland.
“They just come out of the woodwork,” notes Buck. He said everyone involved in “Sirens,” onstage and off, is a resident of the Cleveland area.
“There’s a wide range of experience in theater among us,” observed Buck, “but everyone is pitching in with what abilities they have because they want great theater in this town.”
Tapper said she was “heartened by the labor of love and sweat from our wonderful local residents who are not only acting in the performance, but building scenery, serving as stage managers, property managers, and production crew, and assisting with public relations and box office management.”
