Orin ‘Jack’ Souther

Orin A. “Jack” Souther, father, educator, longtime coach at Lee University, World War II veteran and mentor to many was born June 15, 1926, and passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2013, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He was survived by his daughters: Vikki Simmons (JD) and Shauna Hardin (Allan); his son, Kevin Souther; grandchildren: Sherra Kriston (Jim), Andrea Kramer (Ryan), Brent Hardin (Megan) and Jessica Hunter (Thomas); and eight great-grandchildren (plus twins on the way).

A native of Southern Ohio and graduate of Wilmington College and Xavier University, he retired from Warren County Public Schools as County Superintendent in the early 80s. He then started his long-time tenure as coach at Lee University coaching women’s basketball, women’s softball and men’s golf. He retired from Lee University in 2012 after 30 years of service.

He was a decorated World War II veteran and served in the U.S Army in the Philippines and was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the Lee University Sports of Hall of Fame.

There will be a memorial service at the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Lee University campus today, May 5, 2013, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be set up at Lee University.
