Oscar W. Franklin, 85, completed his earthly journey on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013.

He was a resident of Cleveland for 62 years. He was married to the love of his life Geraldine “Gerry” King Franklin for 61 years.

He was known for his positive attitude and winning smile. After being discharged from the U.S. Air Force, he came to Cleveland in 1951.

He was a graduate of Lee University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As a public accountant, he served many businesses and residents in the area.

As a Christian he served his family. He pastored in San Antonio, Texas, and the Cleveland Blue Springs Church of God. He was a charter member of the Westmore Church of God, serving faithfully as clerk for over 30 years.

At the time of his death he was a trustee for the Church of God International.

He was an active alumni for the schools he attended and was always contributing to his community. He served as a member and president of the Cleveland Optimist Club. He will long be remembered by his fellow citizens.

His daughters Teresa and Sheila were the joys of his life.

He was the son of the late Martin and Anna Franklin. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Morelock; and brothers: Martin Franklin Jr., William Franklin and Benny Franklin.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Franklin; daughters: Teresa Franklin Raath and her husband, Dr. Ethan Raath, of Denver, Colo. and Sheila Franklin Donnelly and her husband, Kenneth, of Douglasville Ga; grandchildren: Philip F. Raath, Stephen J. Raath, Ethan A. Raath and Vanessa A. Solomon; great-grandchildren: Abwoon Raath-Pontz, Ari N. Solomon and Eliana T. Solomon; sisters: Peggy Gray of Tampa Fla., and Jackie Strickland of Somerset Va.; brothers: Denny Franklin of Somerset, Ky., Eugene Franklin of St. Peters, Mo., the Rev. Jimmy Franklin of Cleveland and Tommy Franklin of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at the Westmore Church of God with Dr. Dennis McGuire, Dr. Ethan Raath, the Rev. Wendell Smith and Pastor Chris Moody officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Philip Raath, Stephen Raath, Ethan Raath, Don Short, Jonathan Franklin and Mark McGuire serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be the other charter members of the Westmore Church of God.

The family will receive friends today from 3 until 5 at the North Ocoee Street chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes and from 1 until 2 Monday at the Westmore Church of God.
