As part of the special day, the Rev. Dennis McGuire will be speaking in the morning services at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. McGuire has served as a mentor for Moody. He was serving as Tennessee overseer for the Church of God, when Moody accepted the South Cleveland pastorate. McGuire has served two terms as general overseer of the Church of God.
During the evening service, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, an informal service commemorating Pastor Moody’s decade of service will be featured. A reception will follow the evening service.
Moody came to the church in October 2002 as senior pastor. He came to Cleveland from a pastorate at the Van Alstyne, Texas, Church of God. Moody had previously served as youth pastor at South Cleveland.
Moody receives his bachelor degree in pastoral ministry from Lee University. He received his master’s in Christian Ministries from the Pentecostal Seminary.
In the decade since he came to serve at the church, its congregation has tripled in size. The church has also moved from its former site on South Ocoee Street to Volunteer Drive, just off APD 40.
For 2 1/2 years, while the new church was being built, the South Cleveland congregation met at Cleveland Middle School. The congregation moved into its new locale in February of 2009.
Moody is married to Teri, who works in the Lee University admissions office. The couple has three children: Blake, Karey and Avery.
The public is invited to visit the church for this special day of recognition.
