DECATUR — The Polk County Wildcats punched it out with District 5-AA rival Meigs County Monday evening.
Wildcat visitors rallied in the top of the sixth to steal one from the home team and grab an all-important first district win of the young season.
Polk struck first, as the team combined for three run in the top of the opening frame.
Meigs struck back in the bottom of the first, plating three of its own to even the score.
The Wildcats jumped back out in front as they pushed across another pair in the fourth, but once again Meigs answered, this time to grab a 6-5 lead.
Down a run, Polk’s bats came to life one last time in the top of the fifth, driving in two more runs to bring the score to the final of 7-6.

Lady Wildcats 7, Lady Chargers 0
BENTON — The Polk County Lady Wildcats continued a busy stretch with a home stand against Chattanooga Christian Monday evening.
Lady Wildcat bats combined for seven runs, four earned, over six innings, while a pair of Polk pitchers combined to keep the visiting Lady Chargers scoreless.
Jordan Triplett got the win for the home team going 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Briana Muller came into the game in relief and finished strong, ringing up four Lady Chargers over 2 1/3.
Lydia Triplett got things started for the Lady Wildcats, hitting a one-out triple. Sydney Sloan knocked her in with a 2-run home run. Caroline Jenkins then reached on an error and was knocked home by a J. Triplett single.
J. Triplett helped her cause again when she drove in Jenkins once more in the third.
Danielle Harvey led off the fourth with a single and advanced into scoring position on an error. L. Triplett took advantage and knocked an RBI double. Sloan followed with a walk. Lily Cuzzort notched a single and Jenkins capitalized, driving in a pair with a base hit.
