Polk comes up short against Tellico Bears

TELLICO PLAINS — In a close seesaw battle Tuesday night, the Polk County Wildcats came out on the short end of a 50-42 score against their old foes from Tellico Plains.

The host Bears led 13-10 at the first break, but the Wildcats rallied for a 27-25 advantage at the intermission.

Tellico (9-6) edge back into the lead by a single point heading into the final eight minutes, but then doubled the Wildcat effort with a 14-7 run for the eight-point victory.

Preston Russell paced the Bears with 21 points, while Justin Holcomb helped out with 11.

Alex Akins topped Polk with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Evan Ball drained a trio of treys for nine points.

Brock Raper added seven points to the Wildcat total, while Logan Brewer netted six and pulled down a half-dozen boards. Tyler Cheatham cleaned the glass for 10 rebounds in the contest.

Polk County (8-10) will jump back into District 5-AA action Friday night with a trip to Decatur to face Meigs County.
