On Monday, Polk County traveled to Coahulla Creek to again take on a Georgia team they faced just last week.

The Wildkittens were able to once again defeat the Lady Colts, but unlike their 55-38 victory at home last Tuesday, the game was a much closer one Monday evening.

When the final buzzer sounded, Polk had outscored Coahulla 57-52, which extended the Wildkittens’ record to 4-1.

The stage was set for a hard-fought, close game down in Dalton in the first quarter, as the Wildkittens only had a 13-11 lead over their familiar opponent.

In the second quarter, Coahulla Creek added 12 points to the board, while Polk County’s 11 points gave them a one-point lead, 24-23, going into the half.

The Wildkittens found their single-point lead reversed in the third quarter after the Lady Colts scored 14 points to Polk’s 12 points.

Polk County came back to life in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points while their opponent was only able to net 15 more.

The Wildkittens were led by Isabella Liner, who racked up 28 points in the game. Liner hit seven treys and was 5-for-6 at the free-throw line.

Makayla McClary finished the night with 10 points, eight of which came from going 8-for-8 on foul shots. McClary also had 10 rebounds in the game.

Overall, the Wildkittens hit 21-of-29 free throws and had a total of 29 rebounds in Monday’s victory.

Tonight, Polk County will host Hiwassee Dam, out of North Carolina, with the Wildkittens taking the court at 6 p.m.
