ATHENS — Cleveland traveled north Thursday night to continue its District 5-AAA play.

Having shut out Soddy-Daisy 5-0 on Tuesday, the Raiders (4-2-1, 2-0) kept things rolling in the right direction and defeated “historic rival” McMinn County 4-1.

Jonathan Collins was able to get one past the Cherokee keeper just 16 seconds into the match, with the assist coming from Kameron Dunn.

The Tribe tied things up 10 minutes later, but Brandon Romero was able to get the lead back for Cleveland a short time later off of a free kick.

With a 2-1 lead at the half, the Raiders made it a 3-1 game in the 67th minute after Chris Pistrang knocked one past the keeper with an assist by Rosmel Gallo.

The final Cleveland goal came from Anfernee Avila, who was assisted by Marvin Ruiz in the 78th minute.

According to Cleveland head coach John Brose, the score was not a reflection of how close the game really was.

The Raiders had a total of 15 shots, 14 of which were on goal, while the Cherokees registered 10 shots, with five being on goal.

Cleveland travels to Franklin County this weekend to compete in the Rebel Classic.

On Saturday the Raiders will take on Franklin County at 1 p.m. and then DeKalb County (Tenn.) at 5 p.m.

Halftime score: 2-1. Goals: Jonathan Collins, Brandon Romero, Chris Pistrang, Anfernee Avila (CHS). Assists: Kameron Dunn, Marvin Ruiz (CHS). Record: Cleveland 4-2-1, 2-0 District 5-AAA; McMinn County 1-4-1, 0-1.
