Special to the Banner

The Chattanooga based, family-owned and operated Reflections Art and Framing Gallery is welcoming 2014 with a brand new two-month exhibit of original artwork representing a large group of current gallery members.

Reflections’ member artists are all residents of Chattanooga and surrounding areas, including Cleveland, and the gallery’s main focus is the promotion of local talent. The new open-themed show, opening Jan. 23, is simply titled “Members Exhibition.” It is set to showcase the variety of work presented by these talented individuals at the gallery’s main location and framing studio on Lee Highway.

Members’ work is also displayed year-round at Reflection’s secondary display location in the main atriums and halls of Eastgate Town Center, and includes more than 60 participating artists.

The art mediums and subject matter on display are widely varied, sweeping between pastoral and abstract, photography and traditional oils, mixed media and experimental. Despite the open-themed nature of the collection, the exhibit offers a surprising visual congruency and flows nicely through the display space, which is a clean-lined, open area with concrete floors and crisp, deep grey walls which make the art “pop” as the main attraction.

Patrons are encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces throughout the length of the exhibit, on display until March 20, and at the end of the show a “People’s Choice” award will be announced.

The public receptions that traditionally accompany art exhibit openings at Reflections Gallery are suave, yet casual, events that allow patrons and artists to mingle amidst a backdrop of art, live music, beverages and hors d’oeuvres. This provides a rare opportunity for the public to pose questions of the artists and gain insight as to the purpose and meaning behind the work on display. The reception for the Members Exhibition will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., and is open to the public free of charge.

The show features art of gallery members Becky Fried, Bobbie Crow, Linda Kerlin, Lora Miller, Lu Litvinkova, Lynne Mayer, Nathan Kilpatrick, Helen Brooks, Melanie Bianculli, Peggy Jennings and Lauren Howard.
