Millions of people have joined the fight — the fight against cancer.

Many have done so by participating in Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s team event to fight cancer.

The event will return to Bradley County on May 3 to May 4, 2013. A kickoff planned for Oct. 30 will officially get the new Relay season under way.

The 2012 Relay For Life in Bradley County was a successful event, raising more than $250,000 for the American Cancer Society, and placing No. 4 in the state of Tennessee for money raised by an individual Relay.

“We’re excited about our plans for 2013 and look forward to having new teams and participants join us,” said Tammy Leatherwood, event chair. “This kickoff is just the beginning of great things to come.”

The public is invited to learn more about Relay For Life at the kickoff breakfast on Tuesday.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8 a.m. at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Relay For Life is the largest cancer fundraiser in the nation. Held in more than 3,700 communities nationwide last year, the event brings participants together to raise money for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient support programs
