A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m, Monday, May 21, 2012, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City with Father Christian Mathias and the Rev. John Slater officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church that evening from 5 to 7.
He was born April 26, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Walter Dewey Switzer and Arrah Hering Switzer.
He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, after serving four years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He spent 51 years as a manufacturer's representative in the furniture industry.
He was a private pilot and flight instructor, loved to snow mobile, and he lived life to the fullest.
While living in Loudon County, he was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he served as a Stephan minister and a eucharistic minister.
He loved working with young people and served as a scout master, establishing Boy Scout Troop 770 at the church.
He was very proud to be a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and in 2000 was the recipient of the first Knight of the Year award given by Chapter 12633.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special grandmother, Elizabeth Hering; and brother, Jerry Switzer.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, the Rev. Betsy Switzer of Benton; a daughter, Dianna Thompson and husband, Brad, of Oregon; three grandchildren of Indiana: Vicki Arnold (Andrew), Becky Bentley (Chris), and Tim Thompson (Josie); seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Switzer; and special cousins: Carol Brewster Rechel (Norm) and Pat Hillman, all of Ohio.
The family expresses appreciation to the caring and compasionate doctors and nurses in the MICU of Skyridge Medical Center and in SCU of Kindred Hopsital.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to S. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 900 Clingan Ridge Drive N.W or Benton-Chestuee United Methodist Church Circuit, P.O. Box 845, Benton, TN 37307.
